Kawardha is a small town in Kabirdham district of Chattisgarh State in India. It located in Maikal range that passes through Central India. It is a historical tribal town. Its name is inspired from Kabirdham. It is said that Saint Kabir spend long time in this region and later the establishment of the seat of descendants of his disciple Dharmdas , it was named as Kabirdham. It is a extremely peaceful & naturally beautiful place located on the southern bank of river Sakari.
About 18 km from District Headquarter, Bhoramdeo Temple is a very important place historically and archeologically. It is popular for erotic sculpture work similar to the work done in Khajuraho temples. This place was the capital of Nagvanshi kings from 9th century to 14th century. Later it came under possession of Haihayvanshi Kings who were related to state Ratanpur. The Archaeological remains of the temple and old fort constructed by these kings are still available.
Kawardha Palace History
The Karwadha Palace was built in between the period of 1930 and 1939, by the Maharaja named Maharaja Dharamraj. The entire design of the palace was commissioned by Maharaja tough some of the renovation have been done.
Today, the palace is managed and maintained by the successor Maharaja Vishwaraja Singh and his family and thus even today after centuries old, the Palace is able to preserve its historical importance which represent the glorious past. The main gateway of the palace is known as Haathi Darwaza and it marks the royal processions that were carried out by the royal elephants during those times.

The Karwadha Palace is constructed in the 11 acres of the garden which is huge and admiring property, with green lush surrounding the entire foundation of the palace. The palace is built using the stones and the Italic marble. This palace is reputed for the private residence more than that of the hotel and holds the royal history and memories of the Maharaja's era. The rooms of the palace are manufactured and organized giving the personal touch that is unique from that of other constructions. Inside the palace, the darbar hall is situated which is said to be more than 80 feet in its height and the grand towering dome and the gold leaf filigree, and the Zebra room is associated. To the entrance of the palace the main gate is constructed which is known as the Haathi Darwaja which is the translation of the elephant gate.

In the year 1991, Maharaja Yogesh Raj Singh Ji thought of transforming the palace to a luxurious hotel, hence shortly it was renovated with the many additional materials which included the arched corridors, the residential quarters and also the magnificent courtyards which have been extended. The fresco which has been well designed with the furniture used in the palace is rare and unique.
